Shakre Chardonnay 2018
Margaret River has become the benchmark wine region in Australia for Chardonnay and Cabernet Sauvignon. Its climate is warm Mediterranean with cooling breezes off the Indian Ocean. The fruit is sourced from the Wilyabrup sub-region where the region’s first vines were planted. It sits at 106 meters above sea level and is the highest elevation in Margaret River. The un-irrigated vineyards are predominantly gravelly sandy loams with 30 year old Mendoza clone Chardonnay vines.
The grapes were gently pressed to ensure the highest quality with the most intense fruit expression and the lowest in undesirable phenolic skin characters. Fermentation occurred 80% in stainless steel and 20% in barrel using a combination of new and used oak. The barrel aged portion spent three months on lees for additional flavor complexity.
Pale lemon in appearance with bright and clean fruit aromas. Juicy and structured on the palate with a balanced finish.
